Aeternal Paws visits CARA’s Home for Dogs
A team of seven volunteers and representatives from Aeternal Paws, a pet cremation service serving Metro Manila and Bulacan, recently visited the KAHU Home for Dogs, also known as CARA’s doggery, to spend time with its residents and lend a helping hand.
The Home for Dogs currently cares for roughly 50 dogs. Many are rescues from previous operations, while others are patients who survived severe, life-threatening conditions and now need lifelong care and rehabilitation. For these dogs, CARA is not a temporary stop but a permanent, safe home.
The facility is also home to around 30 adoptable, well-socialized dogs who are ready to join families of their own. For those not yet able to adopt, the Home for Dogs encourages people to start by becoming sponsors or foster parents, which are meaningful ways to support a dog’s journey toward a forever home.
Despite their difficult pasts, the dogs greeted the visitors with boundless enthusiasm! The usual suspects Bravo, Joy, Tiktok, and Sara were notable greeting committee members. They were happy to meet new people, eager to play, and quick to make friends with the volunteers.
Aeternal Paws later shared their experience of the visit, describing the warmth of the dogs and the dedication of the people who care for them.
For a company that spends its days helping families say goodbye to beloved pets, the visit was a reminder of the other side of that bond: the many animals still waiting for someone to love them.
How to help: Those interested in adopting, sponsoring, or fostering may reach out to CARA Welfare Philippines through its official channels.
What to Expect during a Visit
Thinking of visiting our Home for Dogs? Here’s what to prepare and what to expect, so you can spend less time worrying and more time with the dogs.
Our Home for Dogs is located at TAPCO Realty in Novaliches. You may use WAZE or Google Maps to learn how to get there on time. Arrive early. Please arrive at least 15 minutes ahead of your schedule. That way, you will have ample time to park (parking is available, limited slots), and walk to the venue within the compound.
No human food or drinks inside the facility. Even though it isn’t good for their diets, human food can get some of the dogs overly excited. If you plan to bring your snacks, you may leave it at the receiving area, but not bring it within the play area.
Photos and videos are welcome. Please keep your activities calm and relaxed, as some dogs may be startled by sudden noise or flash photography.
A visit can easily take half your day. Here’s what you can look forward to:
- Hang out and make new canine friends. Each dog has a unique personality you may fall in love with. Ask a caretaker or lead volunteer about their backstories too!
- Walk the dogs. Walks are done in batches, and you’ll be assisted by a CARA caretaker and a volunteer.
- Feed the dogs. Help feed them using your donations, plus dog-safe treats approved by our caretakers.
Here’s what a typical day might look like. Activities depend on the schedule and on how many volunteers are around.
1. Brief tour. Get oriented, meet the caretakers, and learn how the Home for Dogs runs.
2. Food prep and feeding. Meals depend on the day of your visit:
- Monday, Wednesday, Friday: a homemade mix of chicken, kalabasa, and rice
- Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday: kibble and wet food
3. Dog walking. Take the dogs out in batches, with a caretaker and a lead volunteer to guide you.
4. Dog bathing. Help give the dogs a good scrub.
5. Donation turnover. Hand over your donations to the CARA team, and see where your help goes.
Weather advisory: In this weather, don’t forget to bring an umbrella and drinks for yourself! A portable fan may also provide you with comfort. While the Home for Dogs is well-ventilated, visiting during peak noontime may still cause slight inconveniences given our regional climate. Best to be prepared!
