From Our Volunteer: Amazing Pet-friendly Stays at Acuaverde
Rosana Evangelista, a CARA volunteer and our current Team Lead for Humane Education, shares her experience at Acuaverde's 8th Annual National Dog Day, where CARA received the 2026 Pet Loyalty Club donation. The views below are her own, drawn from her three-day stay.
Our experience at Acuaverde for National Dog Day was surreal and so much fun!
We arrived the day before the event, and from the moment we walked in, everyone at the resort seemed genuinely excited to have us. The front desk staff, the restaurant crew, even the lifeguards kept asking if we were there for the big event the next day. When I met with Cristine and the rest of the team, especially the front desk, they went out of their way to make sure our stay was as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. I know I keep saying "accommodating," but there's really no better word for it.
Event Day
We woke up bright and early to a fabulous breakfast buffet. A thoughtful touch: the downstairs buffet area lets pets sit with their humans, while an upstairs area is set aside for guests without pets.Later, the resort hosted a lovely luncheon for the suppliers, a chance to meet and chat informally before the program.
What struck me right away was the camaraderie. It was obvious many of them had been doing this event together for years. They weren't just exchanging the usual professional greetings, I felt that they had become real friends. They knew each other's staff, each other's families, and were making kumusta on a much more personal level.
Some of them were kind enough to pull me into the conversation and ask who we were. When I explained I was there to accept their donations on behalf of CARA, they were just as warm and welcoming to me. Surprisingly, many of them hadn't heard of us yet, so I told them, "Sige, join the game later and you'll find out!"
A Well-Run Program
The activity was very well organized. The resort brought in an organizer that exclusively handles pet events, and it showed! Photo opportunities were woven naturally into the program, so everything flew naturally and in order.They were also great with cues. Someone would come up and say, "Ma'am, you're next”.
That kept everything smooth and moving quickly, which mattered, because these fur parents came to slay.
The whole experience was a wonderful look into the world of fur families. Most, if not all, of the guests were part of the resort's Pet Loyalty Club program, and many were families with pets instead of children. DINKs [Double Income, No Kids], as the term goes, and it fits perfectly. But the mix was wider than that: grandparents with their kids and their grandpups, and a few families where it's now just the parents, their grown child, and that child's pet. It made for a completely different atmosphere and vibe.
Everyone was so participative. The costumes were wonderful. It was my first time to join an event, so I’m excited to see what they will have in store in the future.

Whenever I spoke about fostering, I say something along the lines of, consider giving your fostered pets a one of a kind experience. Even taking them out for a beach weekend will fill them with joy.
